Firelife In a dark and timeless place, lit only by the flame of a candle, two objects of death are struggling for life. Or two living objects are fighting for death. The moving flame, motivates the stationary, causing existence. Or trying persistently and patiently to create it. It sets a start or an ending. What is the intimate and where? The fire is always intertwined with life. It protects, causes, creates, destroys. The fire area turns into a symbol of home, symbol of the living home. Looking into the fire, each man instinctively is being moved instantly to safety. A new life every time, new but familiar. In the video-performance Firelife, Efpraxia Georgariou and Lefteris Veletzas stand facing each other in the dark. Between them there is a lit candle on which are almost resting two pieces of coal, also facing each other. The two performers alternately blow the flame, using as a metronome their breath. The wax melts progressively until it triggers the coals. When the flame is extinguished, they continue to blow.
